Since 1994, David Guez created art work related to new media and digital forms ( performances, installations, internet ); All his projects are driven by two main notions : "link" (social link, link between internet and ways of making art...) and "public" (an art accessible to all, questionning public liberties...)

These two approaches enabled him to create « objects » and « matrixes» that question contemporary subjects and their application or their link with the web.
He deals with topics as varied as free media, psychoanalysis, time, collective uses of the internet, identity problems, loss of liberty and questions of filing on the web.

His work is presented in national and international contemporary artistic networks (France, Canada, USA, Switzerland, Germany, Netherlands...) and has received a broad press coverage ( New York Times, Libération, Le Monde, Télérama, France Culture, France Inter...) as well as several prices and subventions ( Scam, CNC, DAP ).

Formed in both computer science and plastic arts, he first started to paint and sculpt to progressively go towards digital arts. This is how he proposed in 1995 a work about art and alterity which naturally found the ideal process of relating together diverse contents in the hypertext form.

In 1997, the serie of installations /performances " Série 99% recycled Internet " questions the links between real and virtual body.

He created the first webtv about contemporary art in 1997 - tv-art.net - and the first portal of free tv in France in 1999 - teleweb.org -

With his projects hypermoi & 2067 email towards the future he enlighted questions related to psychoanalysis & time through the use of digital tools. The project – bewac, canal audio web– permitting to deposit sounds on internet via a mobile phone and -1400cm3 l'hyperblog – a potential rival to myspace were developped based on a reflexion about collaborative media.

- Réseaux ghettos 2012- and - Seconde France - on Second life are projects related to identity and public liberty questions in the cyberspace. As for - DotRed -, presented in centre Pompidou (Paris) in may 2008, it questions mass uses as videogames in order to rethink their use by changing reality through virtuality.

David Guez is firmly convinced that art takes an important place in society, it's possibility of criticizing, proposing new models and aesthetics makes it very vivid.
According to him, digital art has the responsability of offering alternative solutions to the dot net economy or at least show its limits.

The artist is also co-funder of "Internet mon amour" a collective of french actors of the art and new media scene and of "poptronics", a webzine on digital culture.

DotRed Project’s aim is to create a multiplayer on-line game, using web social
networking utilities to bring users together for humanitarian and social purposes,
focusing on the transition from the virtual world to the real world.
DotRed’s first mission is to simulate real estate market and housing project issues by
giving users the opportunity to buy a part of ‘Virtual Paris’, shared in one million 100m2
parcels, each one of them worth 2 euros. This corresponds to inner Paris’ surface area,
i.e. 100 000 000 m2.
In a graphic and playful interface, in 3D and using Google Map principles, this social
game’s aim is to collect around 1 million euro, to be redistributed to a specialized and
recognized charity.

RG2012 - réseaux ghettos 2012

As an artist, I try to create some ways to give me enough reason to play with the new social networks that are facebook, myspace, viadeo… consider myself like a demiurge virtual. So I started a short time ago what I call “raiser of social network”. I use the term of raiser in his most pejorative sense possible because I think that the real demiurge, the ones that control the rule of these social network applications, are tied to this spirit of control of the identity of the masses but I am aware that each, in his own way and in a reflexive manner has the need and the right to identify himself with these new territories.

Interlligence is a new way to communicate with anyone with the internet network via a classical e-mail client (thunderbird, outlook...).

Interlligence tries to match social network and questions opened by collective intelligence.
The Hypermoi sets the hypothesis of the existence of a 'numerical ego' linked up to the internet network.
This special 'Ego' would be a construction linked to our more and more 'emotional' and 'intensive' Web practice and of its associated technologies. (This project is under construction but you can read the text on http://www.hypermoi.net)
1400cm3 is a web2 community platform intented being a strong alternative to myspace. It aggregates thousand of contents into a friendly interface. It has been a 'carte blanche' of the french newspaper "Libération/ecrans.fr"

2067 proposes to send an email message in the future via Internet.
The concept being simple, 2067 actually focuses on its consequences : waiting, memory and correspondence but also on the aspect of relativity of our conscience towards time and Others. 2067 is the first project of the « Hypermoi.net » serial that claims the existence of an "Ego" related to Internet.

IF I WERE YOU : The installation/performance proposes the creation of a beauty cream ! Everyday, each visitor will be received in an intimate space where I will catch an image of one of its beauty spots as well as confidences as his futur. Each grain will be digitized and established in a visual and sound universe accessible on Internet. In parallel, a small laboratory of cosmetic will allow the realization of a true beauty cream where the principal elements of its manufacture (water, oil and binder) will be illuminated projections of the images of the grains coming from Internet. A limited series of pots of cream "if I were you" will be the result of this cycle where the virtual and the real are mixed.

Days Keep Me Asleep : A bed made of white flowers and shrouded in a veil receives, continuously and in real time, an influx of images originating from Internet newsgroups.Urinals placed around the bed allow the flowers to be moistened during special "watering sessions" in which spectators have access to watering cans filled with a special preparation of eau de vie.At the closing of the exhibit, there will be a limited series of vials labeled "99% RECYCLED INTERNET," filled with recycled eau de vie.
SEPTEMBRE 1997 - ART3000 - Parthenay

Various areas of Parthenay will be filmed and projected via internet onto a statue made of sugar. This statue will be created, little by little, throughout the exhibition. This sugar statue will be placed in a special spot in the town of Parthenay, and bathed in traditional music of Poitevine. The statue will develop thanks to the morcels of sugar that each resident adds to it. After the statue is built the sugar will be turned into caramel and shared with the members of the town.
MAI 1997 - CICV- Montbéliard.

The Antipode "Milky Voice" was an installation that revolved around a bathtub filled with milk in the town of Terre Blanche. Portraits of the residents of the Valley of Terres Blanches, taken during the exhibit, were vidÈo projected non-stop onto the milk-filled bathtub. Once a day, David Guez wrote texts and Michael Barbaud played improv on the piano next to the bathtub. At the end of the expo the milk, which was considered to be a filter of images and emotions, was bottled.

Ideas :
Why the power to show art content as to be in hands of classic media (in fact, classic media don't even show contemporary art)?
May be internet can be a new model to provide your own content and share it with a potential public.
It has to stay low tech (if it's too big, it's too expensive and it can stop (see the .COM aventure).

Mix old and new technology because old technology is use by 99% of people.

I have made a partner with the ivisit technology (which is usually rather expensive but i get it free ) to create a free platform wich give the ability to provide live content with even a modem.
2003/2004 EKART (http://ekart.free.fr)Ekart is an electronic contemporary art center in open share/access based on the use and the propagation of a key word via the networks peer to peer.
Ekart uses the greatest world bases of exchange and resource sharing which are networks P2P (peer to peer).
The contents of ekart are free, in emission and diffusion, and it evolves/moves perpetually according to the artists who share their works (text, image, sound, video, software...) on P2Pnetworks .
Ekart works on the principle of the propagation and the contamination of a key word.
By using competences of the networks peer to peer, ekart recovers all the properties and all of it the questionnements.
Ekart is a viral textual proposal.
Ekart proposes to leave the Web in an elegant and minimalist way

Hypermoi (2006)

The web is the working model in process of our univers in which space, time and memory, as well as the dynamical process of evolution proper to any organism are forming all together a complex system of relations, that is, in fine something one could call an « intelligence ».

This very special intelligence might be different from ours regarding to its capacity of organizing its time on a dynamical and parallels ways instead of a chronological one.

Plunging into the entrails of an abstract form that possesses our secrets, our desires as well as our relations to the others and therefore is the more acute and useful witness of our social evolution might then be a way - de facto - of plunging into the unknown of our consciousness.

We can therefore ask ourselves whether this intelligence would not be able to give us some clues regarding the fundamental questions of human being as a child building his identity reflects ours.

The fact of playing with time and correspondence by sending a message in the future is a way of beginning some sort of correspondence in which desire and waiting will play their part and even may be the anguish of an Unknown out of ourselves and therefore out of control.

What shall one answer to the past ? Especially if this past is now itself out of control ? What conclusion shall one draw of this revelation ?

WE ARE HERE IN PRESENCE OF A REAL "Ego" IN THE NET  THAT IS « HYPERMOI.NET » IN WHICH THE NET IS THE CAUTION, CAUTION AND GUARDIAN OF A SECRET.

The web being a kind of temporarily space in which invisible kind of interactions take place by the mean of meetings with shadows, these "phantoms" being ourselves, ourselves at different times of our lives.

Answering a phantom that is answering one’s self by laying one more message to an unknown adress in time to another one’s self in a few years and therefore generate a weird kind of correspondence from a spirit to another spirit through place, time and period.

How shall one continue this correspondence if one does not free himself of the notion of time ? And much more than a « daily time » question, it is here a question related to one’s analysis of his own experience and what it provoked through the time that has passed by since a « dated question ».

We now have to experience and understand the consequences of these new forms of correspondences and go further in the propositions of the «HYPERMOI.NET», this "I" or "Ego" related to the net, this  "Moi-network".

RG2012 (2007)

Elements for a programmed exhibition

RG2012 is a programmed fiction which uses the search engines of the contemporary social networks to create devices where the spectator becomes the actor and the victim, in spite of him, of genocides and human catastrophes of the future and passed.

In the shape of a fictional screen, it reinvests the network facebook and the social networks and its truths a-avatars ** by redrawing by simple semantic formulas the genealogy of an organized human crime.

RG2012 is not a game.

RG2012 is a fiction of a new kind of which you are the hero in spite of you.

RG2012 is a computer program with the algorithmic rules of genocide, a kind of coding of the end of the species.

Whatever is your profile, your meeting zones, your groups of affiliation, your exchanges in the cartography of your virtual hyper-me , you are under certain algorithmic conditions, the programmed victims of project RG2012.

RG2012 moves this identity question of the subculture of the Nineties with a contemporary hypo-culture * futuro of the years 2012. This identity voyage transfers it onto past or future maps, onto tronbinoscopes, photographs of groups to clarify the monstrous capacity that a totalitarian company of the past or future would have to use the data bases of today so precise generated by the new forms of social networks.

In the area of exposition, a series of slogans, texts, tracs, lists, booklets with the names, the picture, the precise characteristics analyzed and picked via these search engines, of the charts on the walls, posters with the effigy of a global face, fictional videos showing the way to generate these lists, objects derived of the madness of RG2012 reintroduces within the framework of a reflexive and individualized good. (the tee-shirt or the mug to remember...)The general principle being the filtering of the lists of the people registered on facebook according to X criteria in lists "useful" for the genocide plans of RG2012: (for example, the list of the people registered on facebook of Jewish religion which lives Warsaw), the invitation being all the more strong as it initially addresses these same people alive and registered in these networks to come see themselves projected inside these fictions.

* Elements of an hypo-culture : A group on facebook exists based on a semantic data resulting from a segment of collective memory (Nutella for example). It satify itself as its cardinality increases, it has no value within the meaning of its engagement: it can dissolve itself as it was created because it engages only the volatile value of a memory, its fiction is sufficient and makes it possible to release a space poor but consequent enough for... the meeting.

** a-avatar : Contrary to second life or the massively multi player video games, facebook portray us as an avatar conditioned by its own finality: an A-avatar is a vacant and serene person, fully opened to humanity whole and ready to offer under the raison of the virtual friendship the totality of its reality.

We have become the slaves of our projections, the others becoming the reflexive stimulate of this condition of slave, facebook is a kind of tautology of mass, a Utopia carried out in a few months which marks the last steps in a collapse of values and history to profit a schizophrenia of group alienated by its own individual values returned face to face without extensive possibility to fix itself : the social networks are the contemporary ghettos of our own emotional misery and our incapacity to sail in the geography of reality.

The characteristic of Facebook and the social networks are their capacity to completely federate in an exponential way several million people around a tool simple to use related to a completely transcendental concept of all our society: friends. A friend, it is, to a certain extent, the other acceptable one, the one who receives and who returns in a way or another something that resembles us or that resembles those who resemble us, some kind of lowest common denominator of the otherness which, under Facebook takes all its direction since under this concept of friend includes coworkers, genealogy, true friends, those who met us in all hazard at parties or events and with which we possibly exchanged few words, then those never met but, from mutual friends to other mutual friends, fit in with one or another of our profile’s criteria.

To setup an account on facebook, it is to describe in a precise way what we are: our sex, our religion, our political tendency... then it is, through exchanges, to use an interface which quickly replaces our email, chat room, calendar of events which mark out our social life, the place where we post our videos, our musical tastes... thus to a certain extent, facebook becomes the Web, or at least the central tool from which we decline the Web.

Then, from its ability to let us install add-on applications which will enrich the exchanges, facebook gradually engage us in a rather mental universe, a universe where we are "never alone again" and where this strong feeling of a unity in time and space in which we can intervene at any moment meet the ideal conditions of a form of quasi schizophrenic dependence..

All these elements push us to open ourselves up in a permeable way, increased by the fact that each one invites the other to be part of his “oneself” relatively easily.

This permeability enables us to forget, to escape, leads to a causal chain of collapse of identities and with a certain level of use, leads to a loss of reality and disturbs our capacity to protect our private data.

Because Facebook signals the end of the phantasm as an actual phantasm and closes again this possibility of saying "no" or "not all the way there", for instance it closes this possibility to mark the limits of physical and conceptual territories: then what are we becoming?

Under this principle of "never alone again", facebook invites us to strip ourselves completely!

Because what could be more beautiful than our nudity in face of the nudity of the other, all the passages are possible, all the intentions are on the same territorial value: friendship is not far from love, love of the other, self-love in the other.

But this love has a price which is public nudity, nudity offered to a private company certainly full of good intentions, certainly, but which has only monetary performance for analysis goal. This performance does not either have a real value except the value to sacrifice nudity to "surgical" programs which cut up the words: machines semantic connected to priorities of sale and purchase: a sum of words integrated into equations which generate images and individualized slogans.

So on one side there is the analytical machine and on the other side, the machine of phantasms, and the semantic Web of an antique google now produces a new landscape: a Web object, composed of a bunches of human naked and codified into a reducing genetic, which invents a new Fascism formed with the algorithm and the programming and which has freed himself from time and space.
